Due to the way sexuall harassment is over used as an excuse for anything I think it is rediclious that there is NCO's that have to watch their back just because a lower enlisted female does not like him she can say he sexually harrassed her etc and lose his rank. I also Think it is crazy how slutty women that are assigned to combat arms units are. I also think that the current policy on rape and being drunk needs to be changed if we are both drunk why is the male always the one to blame when the night before the female was coming onto him etc but the next morning she has what the hell did we do syndrome? Why can't it ever be the other way around?

I work 2 positions for the same company. Am I eligible for benefits?

I have a friend who has been working for a company in California since this past September. She has been working at two separate positions for this company (She works 20 hours at one position and 20 hours at the other totaling 40 hours per week). According to her company policies, she has nearly worked long enough at this company to become eligible for medical and dental benefits. However, when she approached her supervisor about this, she said that she was ineligible for these benefits because the company does not view her as a full-time associate. The company views her as working two part-time positions for two different branches of the company. My friend is positive that she is working under the same branch and is flustered. Is there a California/Federal labor law she can show to her company, or is she out of luck?

I work 2 positions for the same company. Am I eligible for benefits?
That doesn't sound kosher to me!

It doesn't matter what capacity she works in at the company. If she is working 40 hours a week, she is considered full time under the law. If other full-time employees are offer benefits, she should most certainly be entitled!

Good luck!
Reply:Your friend should call better business beaure..they would know exactly how to help her get her benefits..I am sure she qualifies and the company is just trying to get one over on her...She should put her foot down and threaten her supervisor to go to Better business bearue...I am sure they know that what they are doing is illegal...

In California, if you work in a certain place for more than three months working over thirty two hours a week..that person is eligible for full time benefits...
Reply:Go to the unemployment office and get the Labor Board's number then call them.
Reply:It depends on three things.

California's law regarding minimum hours for full time employment. Search on California Labor Board

Does she receive one paycheck every week? or two?

What the employee handbook states is considered full time employment.

Good luck to her

Should I close my Care Credit accounts?

I opened two Care Credit accounts opened with GE in 2007. Both accounts will be paid off by the end of 2008, each with $2000 limits. Should I keep these cards open after I pay them off? These two are the only non-major credit card company cards I have but their limits are higher than some of my other cards. Since they are not associated with VISA or MasterCard, does this matter much to my credit score? For those that have Care Credit accounts, did you find that you actually used the accounts after you paid off the initial procedure you opened the account for? The only reason why I opened them was to finance some dental work that was later taken care of by my insurance and also to finance laser vision correction. I am contemplating closing these cards after their balances are paid off but I am curious as to how beneficial it would be that I have $4000 in available credit (that I would probably not use) especially since my other cards have balances on them.

Should I close my Care Credit accounts?
Usually when you close any accounts, your credit score might drop slightly. I have kept my account open (it is paid in full). Occassionally I will pay with this card when my dental insurance does not cover an amount charged by my dentist. I like to have it just in case any other "emergencies" (laser surgery, botox, etc) come up!!!
Reply:A big part of your credit score is the ratio of revolving debt to available credit limits. Carrying balances of more than 30% hurts your credit score. Closing these cards would lower your overall available limit, thus increasing your debt percentage.

If there are no annual fees on these cards, keep them open at least until you pay off all your other credit cards.

Wisdom teeth pulled a week from now, but what about a week later?

I'm 22 and I still have all 4 of my wisdom teeth. Boo! They are growing crooked and my mouth now is tight so I can't floss and they hurt, blah blah blah, etc...everything usually associated with wisdom teeth.

So naturally I am having them pulled. It will be on the 19th (next Wednesday). I am about to lose insurance and don't know when I will have dental again. So with that I only have this month to do it which happens to be my busiest month. But he only does it Wednesdays so the 19th was really the only option that fits in my schedule. BUT. On the 26th I am leaving for San Antonio. It is an 8 hour ride. And we are stopping in Mexico for a day afterwards. Who would stop in Mexico without sampling Mexican food? Ha. I'll be in this area for about a week.

I am really worried about the swelling and pain. It is a week after the surgery, will/could I be fine? Any advice? Or am I just S.O.L.?

Wisdom teeth pulled a week from now, but what about a week later?
I've never had wisdom teeth pulled, but have had a root canal. You should be fine. Just make sure you take the pain meds they give you!
Reply:Actually, the pain meds made me nothing but sick. I mean, I threw up 5 times in about an hour. And that was with food! It sucked. Report It

Reply:I had my wisdom teeth pulled on a thurday and was eating spicy foods that saturday.....evne though i wasnt supposed to haha. um when you are eating it though try to not put the pressure directly on the stitches....obviously.

just avoid the whole using a straw thing and be careful when drinking out of bottles the suction could cause dry socket....which sucks big time.

its not too bad. the worst thing for me was the puffyness
Reply:Only you know how you will feel two weeks down the road. Usually they tell you to use a wet teabag on the site...You do not want a dry socket...The clot has to form and infection could set in. I would be careful about eating so that things can heal....
Reply:A week after extraction of wisdom teeth, you should be feeling more comfortable, but Mexican food will probably be out of the question! The areas in the back of your mouth will still be healing. Spices and sharp foods getting caught behind the last teeth can cause the areas not to heal properly and you could develop a very painful problem called a "dry socket", meaning it stops healing. Be gentle to yourself and take it easy.

Dentists, Please Tell Me What You Think?

My DDS hasn't been able to determine what's wrong with my mouth, in am area where my last Root Canal was. Xrays show no infection anywhere and when the dentist feels around my gums, she cannot feel infection. My symptoms were simular to those of a tooth infection. After alot of investigating and testing, she determined that the most effected tooth was the rooth canaled tooth but she wasn't sure why. (she also has a post grad in endodontics). Long story short, my best friend who works in the dental field for 13 years said it really sounded like clinching or grinding to her and to try a night guard. It is now day 5 with a night guard and I notice a substantial difference. Still some slight throbbing, some slight aching but nothing like what it was. So what do you think? Is it possible all that horrible pain was associated with clinching and grinding?

Dentists, Please Tell Me What You Think?
Its probably the root canal failed. Next option remove it and put a bridge or denture
Reply:I would guess it is a missed canal (quite easy to do). You may ask the dentist for a referral to an endodontist if it doesn't get better (does your dentist use a microscope? -- if not, an endodontist with a microscope would have a better chance of finding the canal). Another thing to check is for a high bite.

And then also, there is a possibility that it is/was from grinding and clenching (if in fact you do that). Whatever the case, make sure you participate in good follow-up to know with highest likelyhood what is going on. If the cause is not found definitively in the first phases of followup, I would ask for a follow-up xray of the tooth at 6 months. Best wishes.

Did anyone notice that the symbol for "Medicine" in America is a pagan symbol?

The ROD OF ASCLEPIUS, sometimes mistaken for the CADUCEUS (which was used by Hermes) is an ancient Greek symbol associated with astrology and with healing the sick through medicine. It consists of a serpent entwined around a staff. Asclepius, the son of Apollo, was a practitioner of medicine in ancient Greek mythology.

This symbol is currently used as a logo by the following:

American Dental Association

American Medical Association

American Osteopathic Association

American Veterinary Medical Association

Australian Medical Association

British Royal Army Medical Corps

Canadian Medical Association

Star of Life, symbol of emergency medical services

Did anyone notice that the symbol for "Medicine" in America is a pagan symbol?
please ask another question, it would appear you have paganitis.
Reply:Pagan does not equal satanic. And since it's a pre-Christian paganism, it can't even be said to be un- or anti-Christian.
Reply:I watched a show on tv that postulated that the "rod" is actually representing a stick used in removing a certain type of parasite. When this parasite is removed the stick is wrapped around with this "worm" as it is extracted over a period of hours to days.
Reply:I noticed. But why does everything have to have a meaning? Are we as a people so dense as to need these perceived anointment's ? I am ashamed of your pronouncements..
Reply:many christian beliefs are based around paganism for instance the birthday of christ. Christianity was adopted by the emporer constantine who had to accomodate many religious beliefs into his version of christianity and so taking a bit from here and there made sure the masses conformed.
Reply:Yeah - we learned it when we studied Greek Mythology.

Liz - YOU shouldn't be ashamed!!
Reply:This is an ancient symbol connected with curing.

The snake has not always been associated with evil.

The three coiled snake represents the kundalini (The serpent power). An energy which lays dormant in the sacrum bone and when awakened rises through the spinal cord curing the subtle wheels (Chakras) which affect the gross plexuses in our body thus curing us. Basically Hindu in origin, it nevertheless raises it's serpent head in diverse cultures all around the world and it's symbol can be seen everywhere.

There are some who beleive that the serpent who tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden was not the devil but an aspect of God coaxing her to taste the fruit of free will....so that the whole play could begin!

Is it legal to get Medi-Cal coverage while having Private Insurance?

My husband pays for medical and dental from his employer for coverage for his daughter. His ex also put her on Medi-Cal ( state based health coverage associated w/ welfare) for free co-pays.

Is this legal?? Basically its a healthy child with double coverage and the state is paying for one side of the coverage...legal?

Is it legal to get Medi-Cal coverage while having Private Insurance?
It is legal as long as Medicaid knows about the other policy. The private insurance will be primary and Medicaid will be secondary, paying what the primary doesn't pay. If Medicaid does not know about the private policy it could be considered Medicaid fraud.

Is this true about some tooth paste is bad for our kids?

The Dangers of Toothpaste

Warning: The Drugs in Your Toothpaste Can Affect Your Health

By Flora Stay, D.D.S.

NewsTarget.com, January 18, 2008

Straight to the Source

One of the fastest ways to absorb anything into the body is through the mouth. Drugs such as nitroglycerine for heart conditions and natural homeopathic remedies are given under the tongue for fast absorption. Your daily routine of brushing your teeth with your favorite toothpaste may also be delivering a daily dose of antibiotics or other potentially toxic ingredients, without you realizing it.

Most people, even dentists and dental hygienists, don't realize there is a warning on the back of most toothpastes (including many from health food stores). The warning is mandated by the FDA for active ingredients that are drug based. The most common ones are fluoride, antibiotics and other drugs used to prevent cavities, tartar or teeth sensitivity.

Even children's toothpaste has a warning to "keep out of reach of children under the age of six. If more than used for brushing is swallowed, contact the poison control center or your physician". If a child under the age of six swallows half a tube of the sparkly, bright colored toothpaste that tastes like bubble gum and contains fluoride, the result could virtually be deadly.

Besides fluoride and the potential for poisoning your child if large amounts are swallowed, most toothpaste contain saccharin and many other artificial additives. Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is another ingredient to stay away from. Studies have reported there's a potential for flare-ups of canker sores with SLS. Instead of choosing one of these types of commercial toothpastes for your child or you, providing your family with nutritious meals and brushing with "common sense" toothpaste, without potentially toxic ingredients, is much safer.

In recent years we've been hearing about the alarming increase of superbugs such as methicillin-resistant Staphlycoccus aureas (MRSA). The CDC and other studies list one cause for the rise of these antibiotic resistant bacteria to the general overuse of antibiotics. This overuse is not always in the form of a pill. You may be absorbing a small amount of an antimicrobial drug through your personal products as well.

Many brands of toothpastes, deodorants, shampoos, and soaps contain antibiotics, antimicrobials and strong disinfecting detergents. Triclosan, acetylpyridium chloride and tea tree oil are commonly used ones. Although natural, tea tree oil is a strong anti-fungal and antibiotic better suited for conditions such as athlete's foot than in your moisturizer.

Antibiotics should only be prescribed if you have a serious infection. Informed consumers make wise buying decisions that aren't based on pretty packages. Read, research and choose wisely for you and your family.

Is this true about some tooth paste is bad for our kids?
Yes it is very true......only wish we could have learned this years ago. Thanks for sharing the information.
Reply:It is all very true. Toothpastes, shampoos, lotions, deodorants - All of the conventional hygiene regimen is loaded full of carcinogenic compounds and parabens which are extremely toxic. Consider the fact that every product you put on your skin, and in your mouth contains small amounts of the toxic compounds. It all adds up.

Spend the extra dollar on natural or organic products with twice the effectiveness and zero health concern.
Reply:wow i dint know that

but i did resurce and yea it is true
Reply:Many dangers to Fluoride use. Fluoride is a by product and pollutant. 90% of Thyroid problems are caused by Fluoride in drinking water and toothpaste I.e. Crest, Colgate. Florine (element/mineral) is essential, which means you get diseases when it's missing. Fluoride eats the enamel off of our teeth, which leaves you to risk of protecting your teeth. We shouldn't "wonder" when we strip our children's teeth of their enamel, and by the age of 14 they wind up with cavities... There are Fluoride-less toothpastes out there, although they might be a dollar more. My family uses "Tom's of Maine."
Reply:Thanks for more info on this subject. THis is very true and there is so much more we all need to learn about the dangerous chemicals put into things.

Our govt allows cigerettes still sold and they know they kill. But try to get an herb on the market, and its year before you get it. It has to be tasted for safety%26gt; They know what cigs and alcohol do and its still used.

Floride , that is in most toothpaste is a dangerous thing. IT was used many years ago against our enemies, it numbs the mind. I only begun to understand such things a few years ago and boy when I did, my life changed.

Most rx drugs have more dangerous than the disease they take the for have. We are being posioned slowly. WE are toxic america. LEts open our eyes and ears and begin to see. go nature , but know what you are dong there as well. If you dont, see a naturopath that does know and get help. I have learned some new stomach things this last year that are lifechanging, from ppl like you that just KNOW.

God bless you for sharing. Thanks

Allergies or something else?

Okay it's 2 am. and I am up, in pain and I am beyond frustrated. I have been diagnosed with allergies to dust, mold and some seasonal allergies as well. I have also had reactions to red wine, tilapia (of all things) and shellfish (sometimes).

I had chronic hives for 3 years and I thought I was done with them. I went to the dentist last week and had some dental work done since then my face has been killing me (same side as the dental work) and two days later I started breaking out in hives again..this time it started at the base of my scalp, palms and bottom of feet..then cam the angiodema (swelling) and a dry cough..so WHAT'S UP???

Have any of you had this facial pain associated with allergies?? It goes from the "apple" of my cheek into my ear..or is this something else going on??

Thanks in advance

Allergies or something else?
Try Honey =)

http://www.reallyrawhoney.com/healthfact...

It has awesome healing properties for tons of things including allergies.
Reply:A few things come to mind...

Regarding your food allergies...have you eliminated ALL from your diet? If not, you will continue to have allergic reactions.

Also...a growing number of people with either environmental allergies and food allergies tend to have reactions to things that most people don't (ex. medicines, fragrances...etc.). As you determine what gives you issues, stay away from them.

SOMETHING is causing those hives. If you identify what's causing it and STOP 'that'...your hives will stop. I know a woman who was having reactions and it took her a year to figure out she was allergic to her dishwasher soap...she would have reactions if she ran it during the day...but if she runs it in the middle of the night, the chemical fumes don't make it under the bedroom door on the other side of the house.

You really have to be a detective with allergic reactions. My doc last week recommended that I start keeping a diary to write down symptoms, length of attack....what I had eaten, what I had been doing.

Not sure what was used (medicines AND chemical based items with your dental work) but you could be either having a reaction to that or a smaller idea would be infection.

If I were you,I'd start boosting my immune system with acidophilus (my doc recommended NOW Brand (www.thecatalog.com) 4X6 Acidophilus and 3000 Vit C...I literally haven't taken a sick day since I started taking these two items

I really wish you luck...ironically...ha ha...I am awake at 2am with an allergic reaction to a tiny piece of chocolate I ate last night as well as hives from a new brand of fabric softener...

:)
Reply:Maybe you have a virus that causes hand, mouth and foot disease. My daughters had it last week. From the CDC...

What is hand, foot, and mouth disease?

Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a common illness of infants and children. It is characterized by fever, sores in the mouth, and a rash with blisters. HFMD begins with a mild fever, poor appetite, malaise ("feeling sick"), and frequently a sore throat. One or 2 days after the fever begins, painful sores develop in the mouth. They begin as small red spots that blister and then often become ulcers. They are usually located on the tongue, gums, and inside of the cheeks. The skin rash develops over 1 to 2 days with flat or raised red spots, some with blisters. The rash does not itch, and it is usually located on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. It may also appear on the buttocks. A person with HFMD may have only the rash or the mouth ulcers
Reply:If you haven't been tested, you need to be tested for an allergy to sulfa/sulfites. This is commonly in red wine. In fish, iodine is the common allergy.
Reply:It is Allergies, follow these carefully :

When mother Nature has provided us with such a simple and easy treatment to cure diseases and even to avoid them we all must follow the instructions given by her. These Therapies only help Nature to cure us. Let us not ignore Nature in our mad pursuit of science. THIS NATURE'S 'DO IT YOURSELF' ACUPRESSURE THERAPY ITSLEF IS A SCIENCE AND NOT A MATTER OF BELIEF. Try this Therapy sincerely and regularly for at least 15 days and observe its wonderful and amazing result.

When cold continuous even after taking regular treatment over a period of 2 to 5 years, it is termed as 'cold' due to Allergy and when there is congestion, it is termed as Bronchial Allergy. Inspite of researches, this Allergy is not understood and so it is not cured. And as result, the patient has to suffer for entire life and be in a perpetual fear of catching Allergy any time.

It is true that painful tests are taken to find out the cause which creates Allergy. Then Anti-allergic injections are prepared and given to the patients. Then Allergy seems to be cured for a short while, but apperars again and makes the life of the patient miserable. Although Allergy is not fatal, it is considered to be dreaded.

The basic fact is that common cold is not understood and neither is Allergy. Most of the 'Common Cold' is due to excess heat in the body. Now when such common cold continues, the endocrine gland of Thyroid and Parathyroid is the first to be disturbed. As no treatment is taken to correct the function of this gland, it starts functioning less efficiently. This endocrine gland controls the digestion of calcium and so when this endocrine gland does not work efficiently slowly, but steadily a deficiency of calcium is created in the body. Disturbance in the Thyroid/Parathyroid gland leads to disturbance of Adrenal gland, which controls 'fire' element of the body, i.e. spleen, liver and gall bladder and it also controls proper oxygenation. Thus, less functioning of these vital endocrine glands reduces the of resistance power of the body.

This vicious cycle continues. The drugs consumed to cure common cold only increase heat in the body which in turn damages the liver-the radiator of the body. Moreover, due to the continuation of cold for a period of two to three years, even the lungs lose their capacity to throw out toxins gathered from the blood. The net result is that the body develop Allergy for something. The over burdened nerves develop irritation against certain things like perfumes, pollen, dust, etc. And so when the patients come to contact with that particular thing; the nerve get excited.

The Allergy point (Acupressure) No.21 on the front and back of the right hand palm sends signals, one to the liver to slow down its functioning so the excess heat can be produced and the other an SOS to the brain to defend against this enemy. Yhe body knows only one language of defence-it creates Heat. The Brain produces more H+ i.e. Histami. After a while, the brain comes to know that Allergy point had sent a wrong signal and realises that nothing has gone into the system of the body. And so, in order to remove the excess heat from the body it creates cold by taking one atom of oxygen from the air we breathe and mixes it with two atoms of Hydrogen, i.e. H2O= water. These results in sneezing, watering of the nose and eyes, coughing, vomiting, etc. This fight in the body between the excess heat and cold results in brathlessness, depression, etc. This is not understood and so instead of helping to remove the excess heat and increasing the power of resistance of the body by reducing the deficiency of calcium , drugs like anti-histamin are given to curb the Allergy. For the time being, this process of removing the excess heat from the body is arrested. But very soon, the body starts this process of throwing out the excess heat-which is considered to be another attack of Allergy. The vicious cycle continues. And so, even Adrenal gland is more damaged-which damages oxygenation in the body-creates more breathlessness and creates more and more weakness in the body-leading to more depression and the power of resistance of the body becomes so low that the patient develops Allergy even against microscopic dust.

Now, once we have understood about Allergy, 'cure' is very easy. For immediate cure; take treatment on point No. 21 on the front and back of palm on the right hand.

2. Start taking Cal. phos 6 or 12 i.e. 3 pills in the morning and 3 pills in the evening-This will reduce the deficiency of calcium.

3. Take Kali Phos 200-8 pills on the first day and then once a week. Then take Kali Phos 12-3 pills in the morning and 3 pills in the evening. This Biochemic medicine will soothe the excited nerves, and the Allergy will under control. During this treatment, drinking gold/silver/copper charged water of 2 glasses reduced from 4 glasses is also advisable.

TO REMOVE ALLERGY PERMANENTLY THE PATIENT MUST DO THE FOLLOWING :

(a) Treatment of excess heat from the body do this : (i) Take as first thing in the morning 1 teaspoonful of haritki churna (harde powder-powder of terminalia chebula retz)+1/2 teaspoon of sugar for 8 to 10 days continuously, then twice a week. This will also keep the bowels clean.

(ii) Take an equal quantity of cumin seed powder(Jeera), black pepper(Kali Mirch), saunf(Sauwp), amla powder, crystal sugar(Misri), and ginger powder(Saunth). Grind them into powder and keep it in a bottle. Take 1 teaspoonful of this powder with water in the morning and evening.

(b) Drink 2 to 3 cups of green juice adding in it 1 teaspoon of Helath Drink + 1 tablespoonful of honey. This will supplement Vitamin "C" and digestive power and increase the power of resistance of the body.

(c) Drink 2 glasses of charged water reduced from 4 glasse. This will empower the brain and the resistance power.

(d) and also take the following Bio-chemic salts : Cal. Phos 6 or 12 -3 pills in the morning %26amp; evening for 45 days.

Kali Phos 200 -8 pills once a week. Kali Phos 12 or 30 -3 pills in the morning %26amp; evening.

(e) Treatment of Acupressure is a MUST.

(f) And take Blue Light on the chest and back for 5 to 7 minutes twice a day. That will empoer the weakened lungs. Once you start feeling beeter finish the Pranaym with prolonged breath-alternatively from right and left nostril-repeat it at least 10/20 times. If possile also do Kapabhati and Bhastrika.

(g) In case of breathlessness, do the following :

Ask the patient to lie down on the back between 11 A.M. to 4 P.M. and open his/her mouth wide open. And pour 1 tablespoonful of honey directly into the throat in such a way that honey does not touch the tongue. And thus, just in 45 days , the body would have built up enough resistance power-removed the deficiency of calcium and also empowered all the endocrnie glands. So the patient will become free from Allergy and its fear.

Do I have a case to sue my dentist?

I keep regular 6 month appointments. My dentist said he would keep an eye on one spot of decay. That was eight months ago. I went to a new dr. who showed me the latest x-rays. I need four root canals, along w/crowns associated w/those procedures.

In addition, the former Felton, CA dentist patched a crown. The result: alignment is impossible with the gum line. His fillings allowed for decay.

The ear ache and pain in my jaw accompany a low grade fever. My personal astonishment aside, I am not a drug addict (evidenced by the fact that, periodontally, my teeth look excellent), never haggled over finances for dental work, kept--albeit nervously--every cleaning and dental work appointment. People are telling me this is negligence. But that is a hard enough thing to prove with serious injury via a doctor's ineptitude. One dentist says the Felton man misdiagnosed, and that is not negligence.

I have never heard of anyone in need of four root canals+ after "all is well," 8 mos. prior.

Do I have a case to sue my dentist?
So, why do you think your new dentist is correct with his diagnosis? You really need a third opinion to straighten this mess out.
Reply:Go to a free legal clinic. There is a few police I'd like to have charge. Could end up in a big money problem. Like O.J.vs. Texas.

He almost broke the state.
Reply:It is debatable whether you have a case. These types of cases are hard to prove. You basically need another dentist, preferably a specialist in their field, to come to court and say that but for the first dentist's negligence you would not have needed root canals etc.

Are there any 'downsides' to the passport for delinquent child support program?

Passport rules snag child support cash

By KEVIN FREKING, Associated Press Writer Tue Aug 14, 6:38 PM ET

WASHINGTON - The price of a passport: $311,491 in back child support payments for a U.S. businessman now living in China; $46,000 for a musician seeking to perform overseas, and $45,849 for a man planning a Dominican Republic vacation.

The new passport requirements that have complicated travel this summer also have uncovered untold numbers of child support scofflaws and forced them to pay millions.

The State Department denies passports to noncustodial parents who owe more than $2,500 in child support. Once the parents make good on their debts, they can reapply for passports.

Now that millions of additional travelers need passports to fly back from Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean and South America, collections under the Passport Denial Program are on pace to about double this year, federal officials told The Associated Press.

In all, states have reported collecting at least $22.5 million through the program thus far in 2007. The money is then forwarded to the parent to whom it is owed.

Some people never learn.

A boxer paid $39,000 in back child support to the state of Nevada last year to get a passport, which he lost. This year, his promoter had to loan him $8,930 so he could pay off his new child support debts and get a new passport to fight overseas.

In one case last year, a man got his parents to pay his overdue child support — $50,498 to the state of Illinois.

"For us, it's been amazing to see how people who owe back child support seem to be able to come up with good chunks of money when it involves needing their passport," said Adolfo Capestany, spokesman for the state of Washington's Division of Child Support. "Folks will do anything to get that passport, so it is a good collection tool."

The $22.5 million reported to have been collected through the program this year is a conservative estimate. Some states voluntarily report the payments to the federal Office of Child Support Enforcement, but other states don't.

It took all of 2006 to collect the same amount under the program, which began in 1998.

Also contributing to the increased collections was a drop in the threshold for reporting child support debts to the State Department, from $5,000 to $2,500. As a result, 400,000 more cases were submitted to the department.

The state of Washington obtained $24,000 for Teresa Markley through the program. The money accrued over a couple of decades. She said she could have really used the money in past years, and at one point in the 1990s went on welfare for a few months to make ends meet. While her children are now grown, she said the payment still meant a great deal to her.

"What it means to me now is just to have some validation for the suffering I went through," said Markley, a resident of Tacoma, Wash.

Jeannette Dean of Seattle said she had to tap into her retirement savings and her son's savings bond to help pay for basic necessities after Washington state was unable to help her collect delinquent child support payments.

But this year, she received about $36,000 through the passport program. She said the money will be used to replenish the lost savings.

"It has given back to having a normal life versus struggling to pay dental bills and hospitals bills and things like that," Dean said.

The passport denial program is just one of several tools the government has to collect overdue child support. Overall collections totaled about $24 billion last year.

The largest share by far — $20.1 billion — came from withholding from a worker's paycheck. Unemployment insurance or state and federal income tax refunds can also be seized. States with lotteries also can deduct delinquent payments from winnings. Some states submit the names of those behind on their payments to credit reporting agencies.

Payments generated through the new passport requirements are an important sliver of what states collect each year on behalf of about 17 million children, said Margot Bean, commissioner for the federal Office of Child Support Enforcement.

"We often get payments of over $100,000," Bean said. "For whatever reason, this was the only way we could get the money."

For some families, the payments can mean the difference between having to rely on the government for assistance or not relying on it, Bean said. In cases where families have needed cash assistance through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program, a portion of the payments received through the passport program is used to reimburse the government.

Another jump in collections from the Passport Denial Program can be expected next year or in early 2009. That's when the new passport requirements will likely take effect for land and sea travelers too.

Good job market for podiatrists?

I'm a college student and trying to decide between becoming a dental specialist or a podiatrst. Are there plenty of associateship opportunities for podiatrists just graduating school? Also, how much do most associate positions pay? I have heard horror stories of associate salaries that stoop as low as $40k, $60k, etc.

I just want to make sure that podiatry school will be a safe investment that will yield high returns...

Good job market for podiatrists?

Will the liberal media report this success in Iraq?

The struggle to form a unity government in Iraq continues, but signs of hope are emerging. One of the sticking points continues to be Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari, who has so far refused to resign; however, on Sunday the Iraqi Shia Alliance reported it was close to a deal to replace him.

For a little perspective, travel back to the States, to the U.S. Senate and watch the immigration debate in the Senate. We've been doing democracy for several centuries now, and we can't get 100 politicians to agree on one issue. Considering we're the pros, we could cut the Iraqis a little slack as they continue to get the feel of this democracy-project thing.

There continues to be plenty of good news to be found in Iraq. The Iraqi army continues to take over responsibility for more battle space, al Qaeda continues to take a beating, and rebuilding of the country is progressing. Moreover, the Iraqi economy is improving, and has doubled in the last three years.

News for Pessimistic Generals

The media has given an enormous amount of publicity to former generals who are calling for Rumsfeld to resign, and all but ignore those who remain optimistic about our efforts in Iraq. Colonel William Grimsley commanded the brigade that first took control of Baghdad Airport. Three years on he remains optimistic about the country's future:

Grimsley, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division's 1st Combat Brigade Team during the opening days of Operation Iraqi Freedom, said history — not current events — will tell the true story of Iraq's metamorphosis.

And that story will show how Iraq ultimately emerged from almost 40 years of a regime that ignored the people's needs and undermined its potential, Grimsley, now a military assistant to Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, said during an interview with American Forces Press Service and the Pentagon Channel.

Major Kevin Carter just returned from Iraq, and shares this assessment:

Charter believes not enough attention is being paid to the progress being made by Iraqis in taking control of their country. He said the people of Iraq are grateful Saddam Hussein has been overthrown.

"I was told by an Iraqi that only two things could get rid of Saddam, the United States or Allah. I will never forget that," Charter said. "An Iraqi officer told me that if we just up and left the country would implode. They are so grateful for us being there and toppling Saddam. Even the Sunnis, who benefited under Saddam, thanked us."

Before you think I'm just parroting the Pentagon line by quoting only officers, a Marine serving with an Iraqi unit had this to say:

"Everybody hears about all the car bombs in Baghdad and how many people got shot. Those things are reality — I don't want to downplay them. But there's a lot of good things happening," he said.

Despite being the main targets of terrorists and ex-Baathists, Iraqi soldiers remain well motivated:

According to the commanding officer of the local Iraqi-army unit here, the soldiers' motivation to fight insurgents is steady despite the loss of two of their own comrades. During a memorial service for a fallen soldier, the Iraqi commander of 2nd Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 7th Iraqi Army Division, assured his soldiers they were performing well and encouraged them to continue to listen and learn from the Marines.

"I want the soldiers to continue to do the job they are doing," said the commanding officer, who wishes to remain anonymous. "We need the Marines' support and they are very professional when it comes to training my soldiers."

A tip led U.S. troops to a house where forged documents were made:

The two suspected forgers were found at a house where Soldiers seized $2,050 in U.S. currency, more than 500,000 Iraqi Dinars, 125 various forms of identification, fake stamps for the IDs and an AK-47.

Another tip led U.S. troops to a weapons cache at a terrorist training facility:

Found at the site were 19 155 mm artillery rounds and 21 mortar rounds of various calibers.

The site may have been a training site of insurgents. The cache was transported to a secured location for controlled detonation.

320 Iraqis from Anbar Province arrived in Jordan to received training as police officers.

The Iraqi army continues to take over more battle space:

The 3rd Battalion, 1st Brigade, 4th Iraqi Army Division is assuming control of an area of responsibility that encompasses Balad, Al Duluyah and Yethrib, as well as the smaller villages surrounding these cities.

In addition to taking over battle space, Iraqis continue to take the lead in more security operations. Operation Cobra Strike was lead by soldiers of the 8th Iraqi Army Division. The operation was planned, and conducted by Iraqis, with U.S. soldiers in support.

Iraqi soldiers discovered four weapons caches during an operation in southern Baghdad:

In total, the four weapons caches consisted of seven RPG rounds, three machine guns, 28 70 mm mortar rounds, 38 60mm mortar rounds, landmines, a large bag of homemade explosives, a sniper rifle, grenades, 13 pre-made roadside-bombs, ten rockets, 403 linked rounds of small arms ammunition, three bags of linked ammunition and 5,000 rounds of sniper-rifle rounds.

139 Iraqi soldiers recently graduated from commando school, and are ready to fight:

"The Iraqi people are tired of the terrorists, extremists and instability and this unit fights that ... I am very proud that I am part of this special unit that will help stabilize this country," he said. "The terrorists have had their time. This is our time now."

39 of 45 planned border forts along the Iran-Iraq border are complete. The border posts are manned by Iraqis.

U.S. troops discovered several significant weapons caches on an island in the Euphrates River:

On April 5, Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, discovered 34 fused 82 mm rounds, five fused 120 mm rounds, 600 82 mm mortar rounds, 23 fused rocket-propelled grenades, five hand grenades, 28 55-gallon drums of TNT, nine 55-gallon sacks of nitrate, two bundles of detonation chord, a penetrator and 5,000 AK-47 rounds.

The next day, Soldiers gathered 1,500 meters of command wire, a mortar sight, a receiver, 54 82mm rounds and a 107mm rocket.

On April 7, MND-B Soldiers discovered the following items on the island: 1,450 18 mm anti-aircraft rounds, 27 125 mm aerial bombs, 30 anti-tank grenades, seven 60 mm mortars, five 82 mm mortars, 25 RPG rounds, 96 sticks of dynamite, 600 mortar primers, 156 hand grenades, three cylindrical containers, a RPG launcher, a rocket (caliber unknown), 37 boosters and a small mortar.

In Mosul, U.S. soldiers discovered a significant amount of materials used to make IEDs.

In Tikrit, a terrorist planting an IED was captured.

In Yusifiyah, several terrorist were killed or captured after their safe house was attacked:

During the assault, five terrorists, three of them wearing suicide vests, were killed; five others, one of whom was wounded, were detained. Two of the suicide bombers were killed before either could detonate his vest, and the third detonated his body bomb killing only himself and injuring no one else.

I mentioned Operation Cowpens last week. The operation ended Friday, and the tally of captured munitions is impressive

US forces killed five suspected insurgents and detained five others in a raid on a house southwest of Baghdad early Sunday in a hunt for an alleged Al Qaeda operative, the US military reported, according to AFP.

In another raid, a senior al Qaeda operative was killed. Abu Umar was the terror groups "ambassador," and was charged with forming relationships with other groups in Iraq. Umar was an associate of Osama bin Laden. More than 115 top al Qaeda operatives have been killed or captured in Iraq over the last few months.

Al Qaeda in Iraq continues to use unwilling people to carry out attacks. One attacker was identified by the fingerprints found on his hand, which was hand cuffed to the steering wheel of a car used as a bomb. It was the only part of him found.

U.S. military vehicles in Iraq will be getting a new anti-RPG system called Trophy from the Israelis [This item has been corrected since posting. — Ed.]:

The Trophy, unveiled by the IDF a year ago, combines two main systems: a radar built by Israel Aircraft Industries Ltd., detects threats; and a Rafael-designed system destroys incoming threats in flight. Rafael claims that the Trophy can protect armored fighting vehicles against all types of anti-tank rockets and missiles.

The two conceptual innovations incorporated into the Trophy are 360-degree protection of the tank or APC, which eliminates the need for adding armor plating, which can double a tank’s weight, restricting its mobility and maneuverability; and to provide protection from new threats from the side and top in low-intensity combat, compared with frontal threats of the past.

The State Department issued a report on Iraq's economy. Iraq's economy as nearly doubled in the last three years. GDP rose by 2.6% last year, and is expected to rise by more than ten percent in 2006.

A carpentry workshop funded by USAID is helping Iraqis earn a living:

The workshop focuses on fostering leadership, independence and financial stability among 18- to 24-year-olds. Profits from sale of furniture and doors made in the carpentry shop are reinvested in the youth center to purchase sports equipment, Internet access and secondary school supplies.

Three new power substations are now online in Najaf. At a cost of $4.8 million per substation, each should provide 25,000 households with electricity.

A ceremony in Baghdad marked the opening of a renovated youth center:

The Youth Center offers programs and training in weightlifting, boxing, wrestling, judo and soccer. During the tour, the guests viewed young Iraqi boxers sparring; wrestlers practicing takedowns; soccer players kicking goals; and weightlifters pumping iron.

The project was financed with funds from the 10th Mountain Division.

Everyday Americans are also helping out in Iraq. Frank Casa of Fairport, New York raised $25,000 to send wheel chairs to disabled residents of Hilla:

Casa has raised more than $25,000 to send desperately needed wheelchairs to Hilla, a city south of Baghdad, ravaged by the blasts of suicide attacks and car bombs. Later this year, he'll travel to Iraq to help distribute the wheelchairs.

"There are many, many civilians that are caught in desperate straits, that were caught up in this war, and they're strictly victims," Casa said. "Not to have mobility is like throwing fuel on the fire."

U.S. and Iraqi troops conducted a dental clinic in Amu Shabi:

A smile can light up one's face... and today, more than 200 Iraqis had a reason to smile.

Iraqi-army troops, along with U.S. Special Forces medics, Civil Affairs and 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division Soldiers, traveled to a school in Amu Shabi, Iraq, to provide a Dental Assessment and Care Clinic for local citizens.

A Scottish company has plans to build the first water park in Iraq. This story is pertinent because of the what the company's sales managers said:

OUR HEROES

Petty Officer 2nd Class Juan M. Rubio will be awarded the Silver Star later this month for actions in Iraq:

On Jan. 1, 2005, Rubio's platoon was ambushed on the Euphrates River. The Marines left their boats and pursued the attackers, only to have an explosive set off nearby.

Rubio and three Marines were wounded. Despite having shrapnel wounds in his legs and arms, Rubio belly-crawled to the injured Marines and treated their injuries. He then dragged each of them across open terrain, under fire, to safety behind a wall.

He showed the uninjured Marines how to care for the wounded troops and then began directing covering fire while he helped take the wounded back to the boats.

"Your actions saved lives and you have set an example for future corpsmen and Marines to emulate," wrote Maj. Gen. R.F. Natonski, who wrote a letter endorsing the medal. "Your service is coveted by each and every Marine in the 1st Marine Division."

One Marine died that day, Lance Cpl. Brian Parrello. Rubio believes Parrello saved his life.

"He took a big chunk of artillery," Rubio said. "He absorbed 90 percent of the explosion for me. I owe my life to him."

Petty Officer 2nd Class Justin Jewett was awarded the Bronze Star for action in Iraq:

Jewett ran through a hail of gunfire and dragged the injured teammate 20 feet to the protection of a large vehicle, the citation says. He then administered first aid.

Under continuous attack, he supervised the evacuation of his wounded teammate. The Navy said Jewett's "courageous actions" saved his teammate's life.

Lance Corporal Carlos Gomez-Perez was awarded the Silver Star this week for his actions in Fallujah:

In the late morning, the platoon came under fire from machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades coming from three directions, according to a citation signed by Secretary of the Navy Donald Winter.

Gomez-Perez first made sure that several injured comrades received medical attention, then moved another downed Marine out of the line of fire, suffering wounds to his shoulder and face in the process.

"Despite his injuries, he again exposed himself to enemy fire and continued to attack the enemy with grenades and by firing his rifle with his uninjured arm," the citation states. "By his bold leadership, wise judgment and complete dedication to duty, Lance Corporal Gomez-Perez reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service."

Will the liberal media report this success in Iraq?
Liberals run the media. Liberals are against republicans in each and every manner. Hence the war. Look at Vietnam. Nothing good was reported there and look what happened. Same thing is going on now.
Reply:You already have.

Thanks.
Reply:No liberals are pessimists when it comes to Iraq and overly optimistic when it comes to everything else. They cant handle that for good to come alot of bad will come first. PEOPLE ARE GONNA DIE . But guess what more will die if we did nothing and we would be more vulnerable than ever if we pulled out now. Even though thats what they want because their overly sensitive minds cant take it. Alot of good and signs of progress come from Iraq but nobody ever says anything because of the mainly liberal media.

BUT HERE'S THE CATCH... little seems to have changed? the army takes one step forward... and then one step back as the terrorists bomb what they just fixed, import more weapons and insurgents from ungaurded borders and keep on bombing civilians...
Reply:Hopefully some day it will be too noticeable a success for them to ignore. Of course, that fact won't be considered big news.

How to travel frequently between baltimore and philadelphia at a low price?
Hitch hike is cheapest way
Reply:You might want to set up a schedule where you come home on the weekends, or he takes an occasional week off to come see you.

If the train doesn't match your schedule then driving is your only option as far as commuting in my opinion. I've seen people do it (from MD to Philly) but it will start to drag on you after a while.
Reply:There are dental schools in Baltimore - the University of Maryland Dental School to be exact. Maybe try applying there rather than traveling back and forth to Philly.
Reply:love conquers all
Reply:For a faithful and affectionate couple, who care for the other, the distance is not a matter at all. Even you both can meet once a month. But remember only word "faithful"!!!!and it means a lot!!!

Should I ask my boss out?

I work at a dental office. There are two dentist one owner of the practice and an associate. I work with the associate and have this huge crush on him. I think the feeling is mutual coz we both frirt with each other.I am single and so is he but I dont know if he is seeing someone else. He is a good looking guy and I am not. I am not sure if I should go ahead and ask him out and take it from there. I need help what should I do.I think all the staff know about it including the other dentist. If I were to ask him out I dont know how to say so I dont want to embarase myself.

Should I ask my boss out?
F*** him and you will get a raise.
Reply:Please don't do it, a work place relationship never lasts.
Reply:No way....never mix buisness with pleasure, it's sure to bite you in the ***!!!
Reply:wow. how important is ur job, cause it would suck if it didn;t work and if you don't talk enough to know if he got a partner, maybe you don't flirt as much as u think. good luck with it
Reply:well ahead talk to him and tell him how you feel he might fell the same way.
Reply:No. keep it out of the office or eventually you'll be looking for another job. If he ever asks you out, still really think about it, would it really work?
Reply:I don't think that it's a good idea. If things don't work out then you'll have to think that you are working with this man and things will not be the same after that. Do you really want to put your professional life in a crisis for this ? Unless you're completely sure ( or planning on leaving your job ) then I would ask him out or Else I wouldn't do it.
Reply:Let him do the pursuing. You don't want to make your situation at work uncomfortable, and if he makes the first move, you will not have to worry about jumping to the wrong conclusion about his interest in you. Men like the challenge of pursuing a lady, and let's face it, we like to play a little hard to get so that we know they are really interested. If he's interested in pursuing a relationship with you, he'll let you know soon enough.
Reply:I presume you are a woman and if so, there is no reason to feel your're not good looking. Get a total makeover. Check with a beauty parlor.

With a smart hair do, right make up and right clothes all you need is a nice personality. And I think you have that already.

Then go for it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Reply:could you lose your job if you find out he is different out side of work and you don,t like him that could make things very weired at work. And you say other already have some idea that your flirting with one another just go out for lunch that harmless enough to see if you have anything in common out side of flirting.
Reply:Not a good idea.

One of the above will allow you to get a good-paying, flexible job while getting a BS (and you won't have to wipe rectums). You will also get experience in the medical field. You should also take all the general courses you can at community college (that TRANSFER--and check to confirm), so you won't have to pay to take these during your BS.
Reply:You should pick a diploma course, that would look best when you transferred to a four year college.
Reply:Go for nursing. Nursing is a very commonly offered major at most four-year institutions and that way you will get continuity in your education rather than picking a field and then not being able to continue with the exact same field at a four-year college. Most of the skills you mentioned you do not need a four-year degree. But you should get a four-year degree if you want better job prospects and more money. Nursing would be your best option.

Work vacation time fairness.?

Does anyone find this rather unfair?

Situation:

My boss (a dentist) has two dental offices. A main one (7 operating rooms with 3 associate docs and 10 employees in staff) and a branch (4 rooms total with just the main doc and 4 employees in staff).

I work at the branch.

The doctor went on a full week vacation with his family.

The manager closed down the main office but made us, in the smaller office, come in all week.

The manager's logic is that we need to take incoming phone calls from patients.

But the MAIN office gets on average 20 new patients a week while we get around 4 new patients a week.

Since I'm moving in 6 weeks and trying to earn up every which way I can, I took it as a "earn wage without doing much work" type of week.

But of course there are the three others in the office that would have preferred a vacation and spending time with family.

What's your take? Should this have been reported somewhere?

Work vacation time fairness.?
Since you are moving in 6 weeks , i assume you will be changing jobs as well ?

It seems this was the standard at this job from the beginning so why complain now ?

Next job be sure to go over benifits , before you accept the job.
Reply:Fair, maybe not. Legal, yes - unless you have a written contract that you get paid vacation, there is no legal requirement for the employer to give it.
Reply:If it is clearly stated when company "holidays" are supposed to be, I dont think you can report anything.

Most likely you work in an "at will" state, which means the employer can close down anything he/she wants for any reason at any time. Same goes for hiring and firing.

I would imagine that the 2 "branches" are set up as 2 entirely separate entities with separate ownership of each, and that is why one closed down while the other didnt.

It may be unfair, but it isnt illegal.

8. What is the primary mechanism associated with the role of fluoride in prevention of dental caries?

A. Fluoride increases calcium absorption which increases crystal formation of teeth

B. Decay is inhibited due to neutralization of organic acids produced by bacteria on the teeth.

C. Decay is reduced due to the inhibitory effects of fluoride on growth of bacteria on the teeth.

D. Fluoride becomes incorporated into the crystalline structure of teeth making them less susceptible to decay

Can someone help with 2 homework problems?
7 c

Coenzyme is basically a secondary helper. Think of it like a 2nd pair of hands on a person. You can do more work.

8 d

Fluoride replaces hydroxide ions in calcium hydroxyapatite in teeth, which makes it harder and more resistant to acids.

Do I have to?? ARMY AIT?

If I already have a diploma for dental assistant, medical assistant or i graduate fom an associate and i want to work that in the Army, do i have to go to AIT?? If I have to its going to be less time?

Do I have to?? ARMY AIT?
You might have enough medical qualification to go into the Army's dental program as an officer. What you don't have as a four year degree you will receive later after your commision. Here's the step by step:

http://www.goarmy.com/amedd/dental/how_t...

The Army Health Care Team is one of the best and most comprehensive systems of health care in the country. Here is a step-by-step process on how to become a health care professional in the Army.

Contact your local Army Health Care Recruiter. Your Army Health Care Recruiter can answer questions about the application process, help you understand the responsibilities and privileges of an Officer, and impart, from personal and professional experience, important information about the Army way of life.

Once your Army Health Care Recruiter has met with you and determined your eligibility, you will interview with an Army Medical Department Officer. He or she will review the documents and make a selection decision.

An applicant to the Army Medical Department officially accepts the offer by taking an oath of office and accepts a commission as an Officer in the U.S. Army. This entire process, from first meeting with a Recruiter to commissioning, usually takes about three months.

Reply:You still have to go through the whole basic/ AIT training.
Reply:You have to go to AIT, the Army works a little differently than the civilian sector, in almost all ways.
Reply:Everyone goes to AIT, thats where you learn your job. They teach you how the Army wants things done, you can not skip it. We all have done it, so, as you will hear plenty of times in an Army career....suck it up and drive on and CTFM...(complete the fu*king mission)
Reply:Probably. You have to remember. Theres the civilian way of doing things. Then theres the ARMY way, and if your in the Army then thats the ONLY way.

Good Luck to you.
Reply:Yes.
Reply:yes. depending on how much work experience you have( not training, but actual experience) you might skip a week or two, but in most cases you will complete AIT in its entirety.
Reply:yes you still have to go and no you wont be done any faster than anyone else
