Should i go for my bachelors degree in dental hygiene?

Im only 17 but im serious about becoming a dental hygienist and i was wondering if its truly necessary to obtain a bachelors in this study as opposed to an associates degree. Will i have better pay? better employment opportunities?

Should i go for my bachelors degree in dental hygiene?
you get a much more thorough education and, yes, you will be paid more for your time. in fact, i don't hire hygienists without a bachelor's degree.

plus, do you need an excuse to go to college for 2 extra years?
Reply:of course. u'll always get picked over the next person. the longer u go to school the more $$$
Reply:yes
Reply:Of cource you should! That would be a great thing to do and I'm pretty sure it pays good =) Good Luck on that!
Reply:Yes it would look good on paper
Reply:You may only be 17 but you are picking a very good field in which to enter! There is a good demand for hygienists and you will make good money...probably more if you go for your BA rather than an AA You never know...you might like it so much you could go on to get your degree in dentistry! Good luck!
Reply:Personally, I would not be swayed too much by the bachelors degree - per se. I would be more inclined to hire someone who was older than 19 or 20 and I would also be more inclined to hire someone who could actually hold an interesting conversation. Taking the time and getting the education involved in a bachelors degree would give you an edge in that regard.

I do not believe their would be any difference in pay at all. If there was, it would only exist at the initial hire. A hygienist will have to carry their weight in practice productivity to deserve a good salary and this would not relate to your degree status at all.

Having said that, just so you don't think I'm cheap, I should tell you that my RDH with a bachelors degree who has been with me for 13 years makes $42.50 per hour for almost a $300 day, plus bonus. If hygiene production averages over three times the daily salary, there is an additional bonus every month.
