Currently I am in a dental hygiene program and I will graduate with my Associates in Applied Science.. Now if i ever wanted to go back and teach dental hygiene I would need a bachelors degree (in any area). I was thinking of obtaining a Bachelors in science but i'm not sure how to go about it.. Will i need to go 2 more years? or 4? so confused.. can anyone help before I go see my department chair?
How would I go about getting my bachelors after obtaining my associates??
You will first need to find a university that offers a bachelors degree in dental hygiene. If a bachelors degree in anything will enable you to teach, then you may need to investigate a school that would let you transfer as many credits as you can. A bachelors degree is a four year degree or roughly 120 credit hours (depending on the university). If all of the credits you have accumulated transfer to the university, you will only have to complete 2 more years. However, if some of the classes you took do not transfer, you may have to repeat them at the new university to get a degree from them. You department chair would be a good source of information for you.
Reply:It depends on what the university requirements are, and how many classes you took for your associates can be applied toward your bachelors degree. Would you be transfering to a different school? If so, you need to contact that new school and find out which classes you took can transfer.
Reply:Well, first you should go to your current school adviser and get pamphlet's on schools that offer a Bachelor's of Science in your desired medical field. Secondly, pick the school you want and since your getting your A.A. you just apply as a Junior, when they ask you your expected status. Also, as a heads up, most schools have pre-admission advisor's and when they have orientations, sometimes they will admit you on the spot.
